The Marsh Academy

Where people shine

Department name:

Dr S. Kirby

Department description:

The Science Department in The Marsh Academy is very well equipped with three specialist laboratories and two larger general purpose laboratories. Pupils are introduced to a wide range of scientific skills and apparatus, instilling a desire to want to investigate and explore more of what science has to offer.

Students begin their GCSE course in Year 10 building on the content taught at Key Stage 3.

Pupils are regularly challenged with high level literacy and numeracy demands for the whole of their studies. All students are entered for GCSE Core and Additional Science, with the six terminal exams sat at the end of Year 11 (two Biology, two Chemistry and two Physics exams).

Included in the final summary of pupil abilities are a minimum of two controlled assessments. Students follow the content of the Edexcel specification which provides a good grounding for Post-16 studies, or careers and apprenticeships.
