What is the Intent of Mental Health: Individuals and Society in the Curriculum?

At Marsh Academy Sixth Form, the OCR Level 3 Cambridge Advanced National in Mental Health: Individuals and Society aims to develop students' understanding of mental health, wellbeing and the factors that influence individuals throughout their lives. Students explore how biological, psychological and social factors affect mental health, alongside the ways in which society's attitudes towards mental health have changed over time.

The course encourages students to challenge misconceptions, reduce stigma and develop empathy for others whilst building strong analytical, research and communication skills. Through the study of contemporary mental health issues, students develop a deeper understanding of the importance of promoting positive wellbeing within individuals, organisations and communities.

The qualification provides an excellent foundation for progression to higher education and careers in areas such as psychology, nursing, social work, counselling, teaching, healthcare and public services, whilst supporting students to become informed and compassionate members of society.
