GCSE Science
Course Title: GCSE Combined Science
Exam Board: Edexcel/Pearson
Qualification: Double Award GCSE
About the Course
The Science GCSE is a Double Award qualification so two GCSEs are awarded at the end of the course. Students will study the three scientific disciplines; biology, chemistry and physics in a range of different areas of factual knowledge. Whilst many pupils may not go on to follow a scientific career, the transferable skills, data handling and way of thinking are valuable in all walks of life such as the police, engineering, financial services and running your own business etc. Science is a core subject and therefore taken by all pupils, as a result Science is one of the few subjects where a future employer can make a direct valid comparison between all candidates.
Assessment Overview
At the end of the GCSE programme of study, students sit a total of 6 examinations of just over one hour duration each; two biology, two chemistry and two physics. The examinations will test knowledge recall, use of the knowledge, skills in manipulating information (including numerical data processing and graphical skills) and a number of the core practicals that students meet throughout the course.
