Course Title: GCSE Art & Design (Fine Art)

ABOUT THE COURSE
Students will gain a deeper understanding of a variety of different artists, designers and crafts people and be given topics/themes to respond to and create work, projects and responses to these through a range of medias, techniques and processes. Students will learn how to research artists, designers and crafts people and how to be inspired by this to influence their own work. Students will learn how to develop and refine their work through combining the style of 2 or more artists/designers/crafts people together. Students will have the opportunity to explore a range of different media, techniques and processes with a focus on more 2-dimensional outcomes. Examples of this could be, painting, drawing, printing, collage, textiles, mixed media etc. Students will have the opportunity to create some more sustained pieces of work and final outcomes. Learning how to develop and refine their work further through the creative making process.
ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW
Students get assessed in 2 parts.
Component 1: A Coursework portfolio which comprises of a sustained project and a selection of further work. 60% of overall marks.
Component 2: An externally set assignment. 40% of overall marks. Including a 10 hour practical exam.

Students will learn how to research artists, designers and crafts people and how to be inspired by this to influence their own work. Students will learn how to develop and refine their work through combining the style of 2 or more artists/designers/crafts people together. Students will have the opportunity to explore a range of different media, techniques and processes with a focus on more 3-dimensional outcomes. Examples of this could be, drawing, painting, printing, cardboard sculpture, modrock, wire, 2D design, paper mache, clay, plaster etc. Students will have the opportunity to create some more sustained pieces of work and final outcomes. Learning how to develop and refine their work further through the creative making process.

Students will gain a deeper understanding of different photographers, artists, designers and crafts peoples and be given topics/themes to respond to and create work, projects and responses to these through a range of Photography medias, techniques and processes. Students will learn how to research photographers, artists, designers and crafts people and how to be inspired by this to influence their own work. Students will learn how to develop and refine their work through combining the style of 2 or more artists/photographers together. Students will have the opportunity to explore a range of different media, techniques and processes. Examples of this could be, drawing, photoshoot planning, ISO, Depth of Field, Aperture, Shutter Speed, Lens Types etc. Students will have the opportunity to create some more sustained pieces of work and final outcomes. Learning how to develop and refine their work further through the creative making process.
