ABOUT THE COURSE
Health and Social Care is at the heart of every employment and today many people are in need of care and support. Health and Social Care is one of the largest employment sectors in the UK and opportunities are buoyant. These include a number of different career opportunities at all levels and in a variety of fields including Professions Allied to Medicine and Community Care, Residential Care and Social Work.
Health and Social Care gives you hands on practical skills to get you equipped for employment as well as looking into theories, social ideologies, and in-depth subject knowledge.
We are proud to see so many of our students now training to be supporting the community and on the NHS frontline.
ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW
The BTEC course looks at a variety of factors from human development, social concepts, environments and health and wellbeing. This is assessed through two internal controlled assessments in Year 10 and a written exam in Year 11.
Component 1 – This component consists of two learning aims.
A – Human Lifespan development where you will learn about the importance of human growth and development and the factors that run alongside
B - Investigating how Individuals deal with life events which will teach you the impact life events have on an individual both short term and long term.
This is assessed through an internally controlled assessment set out by Pearson.
Component 2 – Similarly to the first component one, component two will also have two learning aims.
A - Understand the different types of health and social care services. This part allows you to learn and understand the vast roles within the industry and how important they are within society. You will also learn about the barriers that people face with accessing these services.
B – Understand the skills, attributes and values required to give care. You will be equipped with the practical skills around care as well as learning the policy and procedures needed for the industry with an emphasis on transferable stills.
This is assessed through an internally controlled assessment set out by Pearson
Component 3 – This component has three learning aims.
A- Factors affecting health and wellbeing. You will explore factors that affect individuals positively and negatively through practical skills and theory
B- Interpreting health indicators. You will be looking a health through real life situations and using your practical skills to help make a diagnosis and cure
C- Person Centre Approach. You will use all your knowledge from previous components and learn about the importance of person-centred care.
Component 3 is externally assessed through an exam This assessment takes the form of a set task taken under supervised conditions that is then marked and a grade awarded by Pearson.
