ABOUT THE COURSE
Drama develops team working and collaborative skills. In addition to developing your understanding of theatre you will also develop the skills of critical thinking, problem solving, structuring work, organisation and interacting with others. Learners who study Drama have proven to show empathy in lessons, with their peers and to those in the wider community. Drama will give you the skills to tell a story and use your voice to convince, engage and inform others. GCSE Drama is a fantastic opportunity to explore how meaning is communicated through a variety of forms. Learners will have the opportunity to experience live theatre as an audience member, director and performer across the two years, exploring many aspects of the Industry and how skills can be applied.
ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW
The GCSE course is examined over three components, completed over the two year course
40% : Devising Theatre (completed in Year 10) - Learners participate in the creation, development and performance of a piece of devised theatre using the techniques of an influential theatre practitioner, in response to a stimulus. They also produce a portfolio of supporting evidence and an evaluation.
20% : Performing from a Text. Learners study two extracts from the same performance text and then perform both extracts. This is performed in front of a visiting examiner and a live audience.
40% : Written Examination.
Section A: A series of questions on one set text
Section B: Live Theatre Review
Analysis and evaluation of a live theatre production seen during the course.
